Instruments for Science 1800-1914
This presentation of scientific instrument catalogs is part of a larger effort by the Smithsonian Libraries to publicize and disseminate a vast collection of trade literature. The catalogs are browseable by type of instrument or company name. Each booklet can be read in an html file or a pdf for easier printing.

Masterfile Premier
This multidisciplinary database provides full text for nearly 1,750 general reference publications with full text information dating as far back as 1975. Covering virtually every subject area of general interest, MasterFILE Premier also contains full text for nearly 500 reference books and 164,424 primary source documents, as well as an Image Collection of over 453,000 photos, maps & flags.

Coverage: 1770-1990. A database of millions of articles published in the arts, humanities and social sciences, across more than 300 years.
Web of Knowledge
Coverage: 1989-present. Consists of databases containing information gathered from thousands of scholarly journals. It includes the Science Citation and Social Sciences Citation Indexes.
International Bibliography of the Social Sciences
Coverage: 1951-present. An online resource for social science and interdisciplinary research. For book reviews, search title of book and REVIEW in Publication Type.
PAIS International
Coverage: 1972-present. Covers all aspects of public affairs including political science, sociology, health, etc. with an international view. Coverage includes foreign language materials and some U.S. congressional documents. Older materials are contained in the PAIS Archive.

This database indexes books, newspapers, patents, and government documents published during the 19th and 1920-1924.
Communication & Mass Media Complete
Coverage: varies. Enables research in areas related to communication and mass media, incorporating the content of CommSearch and Mass Media Articles Index along with numerous other journals in communication, mass media, and other closely-related fields of study.
CQ Researcher
Coverage: 1991-present. Comprehensive reports on current social, economic, political, and environmental issues in the news. Each report presents an extensive overview and then discusses pros and cons to critical questions. Most have substantial bibliographies for further investigation.

Coverage: 1865- 1 month ago. Contains indexing, abstracting, and full text for the complete archive of The Nation, is America's oldest weekly magazine and one of its premier journals of opinion.

Coverage: varies. Provides access to a variety of eBooks, eJournals, and eAudiobooks to which Colgate subscribes.

Coverage: 1840-present. The photo archive for the Associated Press has over 500, 000 images dating from 1844 to the present and covering a wide range of events and locations.
Vanderbilt Television News Archive
The Vanderbilt Television News Archive is the world`s most extensive and complete archive of television news. They have been recording, preserving and providing access to television news broadcasts of the national networks since August 5, 1968. The core of the collection consists of regularly scheduled newscasts from ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and Fox News. Content from CNN (1995- )and NBC News (Aug. 5th 1968- ) are available as streaming video. No current material will be made available until at least 72 hours after it was originally broadcast. Compilations of other media are expensive to obtain, but may be requested by faculty and Colgate students completing a senior thesis.
